Tip 7 of 10: Think about the contrasts

Contrasts are definitely one of the key elements in street photography. Use them. Some hints for you: dark clothes on the white background and vice versa, clothes of the person that are similar to the road sign, parked or driving car, advertisement poster that are close to this person, behind or in front of the person, etc.




There can be also interesting contrasts between the age, sex and material status of people on the street (young vs old, men vs women, rich vs poor, etc.).

Sun or any light that comes direct in front of you and your camera (i.e. backlight) can be also used for creative purposes in photography. If the light comes directly on the street, shoot against it and you will get interesting photos with silhouettes of people and shadows.

This post has been written by me well before the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) started, when there were no restrictions on the movement on the streets and gathering of people. I hope that the current crisis associated with the COVID-19 will end sooner or later, and we will return to the ordinary life when we could walk on the streets and take photos. Vienas fotogrāfijas mistika jeb negatīvs ir pozitīvs, bet pozitīvs - negatīvs

Vienā no iepriekšējiem rakstiem jau rakstīju par analogo fotogrāfiju un to, ka sāku ar to nodarboties. Beidzot viena no filmiņām, kas bija ievietota nesen iegādātajā fotoaparātā “Smena 8M”, ir attīstīta. Kopumā var teikt, ka visas fotogrāfijas ir sanākušas, bet viena fotogrāfija bija īpaša. Par šo fotogrāfiju arī būs šis raksts. Bruņinieku un Baznīcas ielas krustojums Man patīk fotografēt pilsētas vidi: ielas, transportu, ēkas, atsevišķus ēkas elementus (sienas, logus, durvis), metāla konstrukcijas, rūsu, grafiti zīmējumus utt. Tā vienu dienu, ejot pa Bruņinieku ielu Rīgā gar Dailes teātra ēku manu uzmanību piesaistīja ar grafiti apzīmēta transformatora ēka (tā atrodas pie Bruņinieku un Baznīcas ielas krustojuma). Uz šīs ēkas sienas es ieraudzīju grafiti zīmējumus, uzzīmētu taisnstūri, kurā bija ielīmēts kaut kāds papīra gabals tumši pelēkā krāsā.
